A hardwood floor screen and recoat is a maintenance process that lightly abrades the existing finish and applies 2 new coats of polyurethane. It restores shine, protects the floor from wear, and extends the life of your hardwood floors without the dust, expense, or inconvenience of full sanding.
A screen and recoat only removes the top layer of finish, not the wood itself. Full refinishing sands the hardwood down to bare wood to remove deep scratches, stains, and damage before applying new finish.
If your floors look dull, have light surface scratches, or have worn finish in traffic areas but no deep gouges or exposed wood, a screen and recoat is often the ideal solution.
A screen and recoat removes many light surface scratches in the finish. Deep scratches that penetrate into the wood usually require sanding and refinishing.
Most residential projects are completed in one day. Drying and curing times vary depending on the finish used and environmental conditions.
Light foot traffic is typically allowed within several hours after application, but we recommend following our specific instructions to achieve the best results and longest-lasting finish.
